Israel and the Global South
The Middle East conflict has polarised the world of states for 75 years. During the Cold War, states all over the world picked a side in this conflict according to their camp. As the Soviet Union offered an ostensibly anti-imperialist and post-colonial interpretation of the Middle East conflict, states of the so-called "Global South" are more involved than geographical or cultural proximity would suggest.
In our series "Israel and the Global South", we take a look at different regions and continents: What determines the attitudes of states in the Global South? What continuities still have an impact today and what new motives have emerged? Do (traditional) ideological interpretations or tangible political considerations prevail?
In the second installment of the series Christine Mhundwa, journalist for Deutsche Welle, and professor Tamar Hostovsky Brandes from Ono Academic College Faculty of Law in Tel Aviv discuss the Israeli-South African relations and the reasons for South Africa's genocide case against Israel before the International Court of Justice.
The event is hosted by Miklos Romandy, the foundation's Project Coordinator Sub-Saharan Africa.
