Journalists Defending Human Rights
Attacked, persecuted and imprisoned. Journalists reporting about human rights violations are being targeted just for doing their job. They risk their lives, when they uncover crimes and call out injustice, especially in times of war and armed conflicts. When journalists witness human rights abuses and report about them, they are often labeled as enemies of the people.
However, they play a vital role in their societies: Independent journalists channel public opinions and defend everyone’s right to freedom of expression.
As this year marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and the 25th anniversary of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) and Reporters Without Borders Germany (RSF) join forces for this international conference.
Listen to prominent human rights journalists, like Nobel Prize laureate Maria Ressa (Philippines) as well as journalists from countries. Furthermore we are happy to welcome Ilze Brands Kehris, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights as another special guest of honor. They will not only talk about uncovering human rights violations, but also shed light on disinformation, online harassment and surveillance.
You are kindly invited to attend the conference.
The event will be simultaneously translated English-German.
