#femalechangemaker: Georgia

Georgia, a South Caucasus region country of about 4 million people, is making progress towards protecting women’s rights in all spheres of life and bringing policies and laws in line with international standards, including the European Union directives. But women’s status and rights in Georgia are deeply affected by the local context, traditions and cultural specificities. Patriarchal traditions and behavior patterns especially in the rural areas are still influencing the private and public spheres.
We will meet Georgian jurist and politician Tinatin "Tina" Khidasheli, former civil society activist, who was appointed as Georgia's Minister of Defense on 1 May 2015, becoming the country's first ever female defense minister. We will discuss together with German expert Khatia Kikalishvili about the changing role of women in Georgian society, women’s rights and the current situation of Georgia in difficult times.

In our #femalechangemaker event series moderator Karoline Gil speaks to women from all around the world, who are fighting for more democratic and free societies and are changing them in meaninful ways.
