We are delighted to invite you to our upcoming webinar on "Empowering Bhutan's Civil Society: Overcoming Challenges and Finding Solutions." The aim of this webinar is to shed light on the challenges faced by Bhutan's civil society organizations (CSOs) and discuss potential solutions to empower and strengthen them.
Our panel of experts will discuss the role of CSOs in Bhutan, the challenges faced by the sector, and opportunities to forge a way forward. Join us as we explore ways to empower Bhutan's CSOs and create a more vibrant and dynamic civil society.
Moderator
Namgay Zam
is an independent journalist with more than a decade's experience in all forms of media. Namgay is a trainer and consultant for media and gender issues. She is a mental health advocate and an LGBTIQ ally as well. Namgay is a Young Asia Leader and a Fulbright Humphrey Fellow. She resigned as the Executive Director of the Journalists' Association of Bhutan in March 2023 to pursue other social justice projects.

Dr. Chencho Lhamu
is the Executive Director at Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy (BCMD). The Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy was then established to nurture and improve the standard of the existing media in the country which would eventually foster the culture of democracy.BCMD is one of the first registered Civil Society Organisations in Bhutan which works with a cross-section of society on issues that concern youth, environment, society, governance and education, using media as a modus operandi. She is also an Eminent Member of the Bhutan Civil Society Network.

Sangay Tshering
manages a Software Development firm and he is also the President of the Loden Foundation, a civil society promoting entrepreneurship, supporting education, and documenting culture in Bhutan. He mentors multiple start-ups and believes that the Bhutanese by nature has a higher potential of harnessing the Bodhisattva nature and thus practicing Bodhisattva in Business. He has a Master’s in Business Administration from Thailand.

Dr. Rinzin Rinzin
was appointed as the new Executive Director of BTI on the 25th of March 2021. Dr. Rinzin is an accomplished author, scholar and poet with many publications and has a long list of achievements and honors to his name. He was a member of the National Council of Bhutan from 2008 to 2013. He has also served as a lecturer, researcher and consultant during the span of his invigorating profession. Prior to joining BTI as of the new ED of BTI, Dr. Rinzin served as member of the Board between 2018-2020 and the Technical Advisor to the secretariat between 2015-2018. He is also serving as the Chairperson for the Bhutan Civil Society Network.
